Mafia 3 Confirmed at Gamescom 2015

Mafia 2 voice actor Rick Pasqualone (voiced Vito Scaletta) has been hinting for months on his twitter that Mafia 3 news was around the corner. After waiting those long months it seemed that nothing was going to come of the tweets. However, on July 28th Mafia 3 was confirmed on twitter accompanied by a teaser picture. The tweet announced that the worldwide reveal for Mafia 3 was going to happen at Gamescom on August 5th, 2015.

Mafia 3 is one of the most anticipated games of the last couple of years. The perfectly depicted time periods and fully rounded, detailed story made the first two games in the Mafia franchise highly popular. Hopefully the same can be true when players get to get their hands on Mafia 3. In the days of online gaming and the growing importance of social interaction being placed on new games, I feel that many games have lost the importance of a good story. I feel that being able to get lost in a video game with a good story was much easier in the times without Playstation Network and XBox Live. A rich narrative is what drives the love that people have behind iconic games such as Mafia and Max Payne.

The Mafia 3 worldwide reveal trailer confirmed many of the conclusions that came from the teaser picture released the prior week. Mafia 3 is indeed taking place in what looks to be New Orleans in the late 1960s into the 1970s. The main character of Mafia 3 is not a returning Vito or Joe but instead is a Vietnam war veteran and orphan named Lincoln Clay. The trailer shows Clay driving a late 60s style muscle car down a dirt with intermittent flashbacks of his army days manning helicopter mounted machine guns all while talking about what he believes the real meaning of family is (when accepted into the Mafia that person is symbolically accepted into a new family and is expected to put the Mafia family over the their own). In the backseat of the car is a man with his hands tied up and his mouth taped. Clay then ends up at a swamp teeming with alligators and is joined by three other people. A black woman with an afro, a man with a fu-man-chu, and a third man that is believed to be Vito because of the distictive scar on the character's chin. The video ends with Clay stabbing the tied up man and leaving him to get eaten by the alligators.
